Jason Thompson

Organ Donor Hero

Jason Thompson, born March 30, 1978, in Miles City and raised in Lewistown, Montana, was full of light. As one of Lady Gaga’s “little monsters,” he found ways to brighten the lives of others through art, food and real conversation.

A talented cook, Jason loved good food — especially his mom’s prized lasagna and anything he could infuse with bacon. During the holidays, he welcomed anyone without family to his table, making sure no one ever left hungry.

Jason’s creativity filled his home with beadwork, crochet, and color — always gifting his creations, never selling them. His love of style extended to fashion, where he followed Italian designers — especially Gucci — with passion. He adored seahorses, collected hundreds of small treasures, and found joy in laughter, RuPaul drag shows, and the movies “Christmas Vacation” and “Tammy.”

“All of Jason’s wishes were honored,” his family said. “Others will live on because of him, just as he wanted.”

In 2024, Jason was critically injured in a fall and rushed to the hospital. Sadly, he could not be saved. In that moment of loss, a chaplain reminded his family that Jason was a registered organ donor.

“All of Jason’s wishes were honored,” his family said. “Others will live on because of him, just as he wanted.”

Jason’s heart now beats in another person’s chest. His kidneys and liver saved the lives of three more people.

For his loved ones, who were once hesitant about organ donation, Jason’s decision has been a source of comfort. Christmas cards were sent to all four of his recipients, sharing stories of the man they’ll never forget. One recipient wrote back, moved to tears by Jason’s story.

“I’m an organ donor now because of Jason,” he shared. “It’s the most beautiful gift you can give.”
