Each month, LifeCenter Northwest selects a LifeSaver Award winner. This award honors and recognizes those who demonstrate a commitment to improving donation outcomes and culture through their actions, time, and energy.
We are pleased to present this month’s LifeSaver Award to Clair Korrell, an RN at St. Clare Hospital in Lakewood, Wash.! Clair was nominated by LifeCenter’s clinical staff, who cited her exemplary leadership and passion for donation.
“Clair is a gift to our team and embodies everything we could ever want in a LifeSaver,” said Tyler Russell, a Senior Hospital Development Program Manager at LifeCenter Northwest. “Clair works hard to advocate for donation, removes barriers for our team and makes sure that cases are moving forward.
“She is truly the ‘Mayor of St. Clare’ and shows that through her actions and leadership,” he added.
On the most recent donation case at St. Clare, Clair conducted the grave prognosis conversation with the grieving family. Clair wanted to make sure the family was cared for, as they were losing their young loved one. Clair then helped LifeCenter determine the best time to speak with the patient’s family regarding donation.
Throughout the case, the patient’s family continually put their trust in Clair. They requested that Clair participate in memory-making with the family and were touched by her compassion.
“Clair has been involved in every donation case at St. Clare since I started working at LifeCenter and she’s a fierce advocate for donation,” Tyler added.
On another recent donation case, Clair ensured the patient’s family was supported and moved the case forward. Simultaneously, she guided the LifeCenter team through St. Clare’s new COVID-19 policies and procedures, keeping everyone safe and making sure donation was possible despite challenging circumstances.
“I was surprised and humbled to receive this award,” Clair said. “I am so supportive of donation and feel that it’s a powerful way to continue the legacy of the person donating. It’s a way to carry on their spirit after tragedy.
“Donation is an amazing gift of life, and that’s why I’m proud to be a registered organ and tissue donor, along with all my family members,” she added.
We are proud to honor Clair with this month’s LifeSaver Award for being an excellent hospital partner, honoring donors and helping donor families find meaning in the gift of life.
