Jason Schecterle speaking to LCNW staff

Earlier this summer, our staff welcomed guest speaker and tissue recipient, Jason Schecterle to our office headquarters in Bellevue, Washington. Jason’s message of hope and resilience in the face of tragedy was an inspiration to everyone in the room.

On March 26, 2001, Phoenix Police Officer Jason Schecterle was struck from behind in his patrol car by a taxi cab traveling over 100 miles per hour. Upon impact, the patrol car immediately burst into flames, trapping Jason inside amongst the blaze. He was miraculously pulled from the car but suffered severe burns to over 40 percent of his body, including his face and head, upper torso, and hands.

Jason lived to share his story thanks to the skin grafts from multiple tissue donors.  He has undergone more than 50 surgeries just to help regain the ability to accomplish the simple tasks we take for granted. Though his appearance was drastically altered, his spirit and positivity remain unshaken. His moving story of triumph over tragedy provided an opportunity for the LifeCenter Northwest staff to see firsthand the power of their work.

We would like to thank Community Tissue Services (CTS), one of our tissue partners, for helping to make this opportunity possible.
